    Dr. Marlan R. Hansen is the Brian F. McCabe Distinguished Chair and Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, and Professor of Neurosurgery and Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Iowa. His surgical practice focuses on complex otologic and neurotologic/skull base procedures.

    Dr. Hansen’s research encompasses multidisciplinary basic, translational, and clinical investigations in auditory neurobiology and vestibular schwannoma tumorigenesis. His laboratory uses molecular and cellular approaches to investigate the mechanisms underlying vestibular schwannoma growth and responses to radiation. He also employs tissue engineering and bioengineering strategies to improve the ability of cochlear implants to restore complex auditory perception. In clinical research, Dr. Hansen collaborates with a large multidisciplinary team to investigate factors that improve outcomes following cochlear implantation, including hearing preservation, robotic assistance, intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring, and drug delivery.

    Dr. Michihiro Kohno is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Tokyo Medical University, Tokyo, Japan. He currently serves as Chairman of the Japanese Society for Skull Base Surgery and Co-Representative Director of the Japanese Society of Acoustic Neuroma. He also serves as Continental Co-Chairman (Asia) of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Education and Training Committee and is an active member of the World Academy of Neurological Surgery.

    With extensive expertise in skull base surgery, Dr. Kohno performs approximately 150 cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumor surgeries annually, including around 100 vestibular schwannomas. His remarkable surgical experience includes more than 2,800 CPA tumor surgeries and over 2,000 vestibular schwannoma surgeries.
